Prop 1 Storm Water Grant Program Round 1 Implementation Grant

John Anson Ford Park Infiltration Cistern: Phase 1 Project

In December of 2016, the Gateway Water Management Authority (GWMA) was notified by the State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Financial Assistance, that it had been approved for funding for the Prop 1 – John Anson Ford Park Infiltration Cistern: Phase 1 Project.  The amount of the grant award was for $9,904.842.

The GWMA applied for this grant on behalf of the Lower Los Angeles Upper Reach 2 (LLAR UR2), Watershed Group.   The participating cities are:  Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood, Vernon and the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. The city of Bell Gardens is the lead agency for this project.

Rather than viewing storm water only as a nuisance to threats posed by flooding or pollutants in storm water, communities in the State of California are looking for ways to turn storm water into a resource to combat drought and the effects of climate change.  The purpose of this grant is to capture trash, nutrients, heavy metals, bacteria, and reducing toxicity by installing storm water and dry weather flow diversion, pretreatment, retention and infiltration facilities at the John Anson Ford Park in the City of Bell Gardens, a disadvantaged community (DAC).

This project is for the purpose of compliance with the Water Quality Objectives in the Coastal Los Angeles County Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit.
